Rare Embossed Tin Antique Steamer Trunk, Refinished Storage Chest
A spectacular, super rare antique steamer trunk, or antique chest. What was once a vintage travel trunk or antique travel chest, is now ready to be your treasure chest. This vintage storage trunk is a super stylish, space saving storage solution.
This vintage chest or antique trunk, is likely from the mid 1800’s and it's spectacular! In my opinion, far more attractive than a Louis Vuitton trunk! The embossed tin, on this steamer trunk is super rare!
The embossed tin portions, of this vintage steamer trunk, has been refinished in deep browns, with hints of copper, the remainder of the tin in an antiqued black
. The wood slats, on this antique chest trunk have been stained in walnut and slim topped with polyurethane, for a low/no sheen finish. The hardware has been done in an antiqued black and partially buffed bright. New, custom, black faux leather handles, and no key for this vintage travel trunk. while this old trunk is in spectacular shape, having been around since the 1800’s, it does have a few flaws. look closely at the pictures, if you’d like more pictures, or video message me.
The latch, at the trunk’s right front is loose, there’s also a small amount of damage to the metal band near the latch, on the corner. There are also dings, here and there, the biggest, most noticeable one is in the lid, near the trunk’s left.

Interior of this antique steamer trunk vintage trunk is stripped and sanded, and ready for your finishing touches, though it is useable, just the way it is. These old trunks make a great keepsake gift, add decoupage, of photo copies of family photos, old love letters, sheet music, family recipes, children’s art, etc. it’s a blank canvas! If you’re not familiar with the decoupage process, I’d be happy to guide you.

This antique trunk or vintage chest , is larger than most. An extra large antique steamer trunk, it’s not only beautiful, but this large trunk serves very well as a storage trunk, or storage chest. It will hold more than a hope chest, or an antique cedar chest. Better than a leather trunk!
As a travel trunk or travel chest, it traveled the world. It's now ready to be your treasure chest.
This antique steamer is one of the largest old trunks, I’ve ever had in my possession, likely from the 1920’s or 1930’s
This antique chest trunk is newly refinished or refurbished in brown metallic, which is more of an iridescent ( it’s so subtle), and it was super close to the original color. The tan, buckskin color portions I believe are vellum (leather), but I’m. not certain, tacks have been buffed bright on the tan areas, and the rest of the hardware is partially buffed, to reveal brass, copper and silver tones. it appears to be plating. Metal band, and hinges still have their original finish. Great detail, in all the original hardware.
This antique chest trunk also has it’s original tan leather handles. they can’t be used, because they’re quite rotten, but they look great.
There is no key for this vintage travel trunk or travel chest, and the center hasp has been taken apart, at some point, so the lock mechanism is stuck in the lid portion, where the hasp would sit to be locked. There are also 2 small chunks of leather missing, on the back and top back, and some spots on the body see pictures. The flaws on the body could be covered with reproduction travel stickers. There is one original travel sticker on the end.

Interior, of this vintage steamer trunk’s body has been stripped and sanded and awaits your own personal touch, though it is useable as it is. You could decoupage photo copies of some old family photos, sheet music, art work anything paper. You could also stain, paint, apply contact paper, etc. I’m happy to guide you, if you need.
